The extension came at the Board of Regents' July meeting, cementing Medved's place at Minnesota for at least six more seasons after he returned to his alma mater last year to take over the program.
Medved inherited a roster with just two returning players and 13 newcomers in his first season and guided the Gophers to a 15-18 overall record, going 8-12 in Big Ten play to finish 11th in the conference. Three of those eight league wins came against ranked opponents, and Minnesota made it back to postseason play in the College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas.
The Gophers also picked up a Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for posting a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2025-26 season.
Medved took the Minnesota job after seven seasons at Colorado State, where he led the Rams to three NCAA tournament appearances in four years, including a Mountain West tournament championship and a Round of 32 run in 2025. Across 13 years as a head coach, he carries a career record of 237-190 with six 20-win seasons.
With a near-total roster overhaul behind him and a new extension in hand, the expectation now shifts to building on that foundation as Medved settles into life running the program he once played for.
