Khyah Harper is heading to Texas. The Houston Dash acquired the former Gophers forward from Gotham FC, the University of Minnesota Athletics department announced.
Harper is a Lino Lakes native who wore maroon and gold, playing in 68 games for Minnesota. Her college career was defined by perseverance as much as production — she battled surgeries on both ankles and her knee through her first three seasons before a healthy senior year turned into one of the best individual campaigns in program history. She scored 17 goals with 6 assists in 2024, was named Big Ten Forward of the Year and was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist while leading Minnesota to the Sweet 16, the program's first appearance that deep in the NCAA tournament in over a decade.
That senior season made her the third Gophers women's soccer player — and the first in six years — to sign in the NWSL when she joined Gotham FC in January 2025. It didn't take long for the trophies to follow. Harper made her NWSL debut against the Orlando Pride in March 2025 and scored her first professional goal that August against the Chicago Stars. Over two seasons in New Jersey, she made 25 total appearances across all competitions, scoring 3 goals, and picked up a remarkable collection of hardware for a young pro: the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup, the 2025 NWSL Championship and the 2026 NWSL Challenge Cup. The championship made her the first Gopher in program history to hoist an NWSL title.
Gotham FC general manager Yael Averbuch West thanked Harper for her contributions in announcing the move, while Harper credited the club for her first professional contract. Now it's on to Houston, where she'll have a shot at an immediate reunion with her old club — the Dash could hand her a debut this weekend when Houston hosts Gotham FC for Pride Night at Shell Energy Stadium.
For a Gophers program still building off Harper's Sweet 16 run, watching one of its own already stacking championship rings as a pro is the kind of validation that doesn't come around often. She's still just getting started in Houston, but the path from Lino Lakes to the Gophers to three NWSL trophies in under two years is already one of the more remarkable trajectories to come out of Minnesota soccer.
