Amaya Battle is heading to Italy. The former Gophers women's basketball guard has signed a professional contract with Logiman Broni, the program announced.
Battle spent her entire basketball career at the University of Minnesota before making the jump to the professional ranks. Logiman Broni is based in Broni, Italy, and Battle now becomes the latest Gopher to take her talents to a European club.
For a program that has watched a steady stream of talent come through Williams Arena in recent years, seeing a homegrown player like Battle land a professional deal overseas is another data point in that trajectory. Battle's path — a career built entirely in the maroon and gold before turning pro — is the kind of arc Gophers fans have gotten used to tracking as more Minnesota players test their game against professional competition abroad.
There's no word yet on when Battle will report to Broni or when her season with the club begins, but the signing closes the book on her college career and opens the next chapter of it in Italy.
