Minnesota women's hockey announced this week that five Gophers have been invited to Hockey Canada selection camps, another sign of how deep the program's pipeline into the national team system runs.
Two names on that list are already well known around Ridder Arena. Sophomore defender Gracie Graham and junior defender Chloe Primerano were both summoned to Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp, set for Aug 3-8 in Richmond, British Columbia. Hockey Canada is bringing in 40 players for that camp alongside another 40 for its U-18 team camp, with the development group ultimately trimmed to a 25-player roster that will face the United States in a summer select series.
Graham, a left-shot defender from Oshawa, Ontario, was a WCHA All-Rookie Team pick last season and picked up conference Defender of the Week honors in January. Primerano, coming off a freshman year that saw her lead all Gophers defenders with 31 points en route to All-WCHA Third Team and All-Rookie recognition, is expected to anchor Minnesota's top pairing this fall. She's no stranger to the red maple leaf, either — Primerano won silver with Canada at the 2025 World Championship and skated in last season's Rivalry Series against the U.S.
It's the latest reminder that Minnesota's roster doubles as a feeder system for Canada's national program, a dynamic that's played out for years as Gophers defenders and forwards cycle through development camps, world junior rosters and, eventually, senior national team looks. With training camp for the Gophers still weeks away, these invitations give fans an early measuring stick for who's trending toward a bigger role this winter.
