Move-in season is closing in fast, and University of Minnesota Housing & Residential Life has locked in the schedule for roughly 7,000 students moving into residence halls and apartments this fall. First-year students get priority: they move in Tuesday, September 1, or Wednesday, September 2, with staff on hand to help unload and a target of 10-15 minutes per vehicle. Transfer students arriving for Welcome Week also move in September 2, with flexible arrival between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., though without staff assistance.
Everyone else — returning residents and anyone not part of Welcome Week — moves in Saturday, September 5, through Monday, September 7. Students in Keeler and Yudof apartments have it easier: those buildings open starting August 15 at 8 a.m., and housing officials recommend getting settled before August 30 to dodge the crush of Labor Day weekend traffic.
Every resident has to book a half-hour appointment slot ahead of time through the housing portal, which opens in early August after assignments go out at the end of July. Only one vehicle per family is allowed at the curb — no trailers, no oversized rigs.
A few logistics worth flagging before move-in day: bring your U Card, since a replacement runs $30, and hold off on shipping anything to your building — package delivery for residence halls doesn't start until August 28.
